SETON MADONNA OF CONSOLATION
Italian glass smalti and 24k gold leaf smalti in steel frame.
Commissioned by the members of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano, Texas, the Seton Madonna of Consolation is an original work designed by Plano artist Lynne Chinn and fabricated by Julie Richey and Lynne Chinn in their respective studios. The multicolor roses are inspired by the flowers in the church's outdoor columbarium where the work permanently resides. As the floral border reaches the top of the tondo, roses give way to thorns, evoking Christ's crown of thorns. A subtle "brocade effect" fills the background and features the Seton cross, an emblem with four wheat shafts.
